Oud of London opens the Prive Collection, the line La Beaute Paris built to sit above its everyday range. The idea was to bottle a city after dark, and what reaches the skin is a resinous Arabian oud with smoke at the front and sweetness at the finish. The presentation matches the ambition: patterned amber glass in a weighted black box that reads far above its price.
The scent, note by note
Opening. Oud, musk and incense arrive together rather than in sequence. Most oud fragrances save the agarwood for the base, so leading with it gives the first fifteen minutes a dry, mineral, almost ceremonial quality. Bold if oud is new to you. Worth staying with.
Heart. Amber brings a golden balsamic warmth and dark woods thicken the texture. The smoke rounds off here and the fragrance stops announcing itself. This is the stage most wearers buy it for.
Base. Smoky patchouli, earthy and faintly bitter, folded into vanilla. The trail sits closer to a gourmand oud than the opening suggests, and that swing from incense to vanilla is the whole point of the composition.

Inspired by Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Desert Oud
La Beaute Paris positions this in the tone of Velvet Desert Oud, Alberto Morillas’s composition for the Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Collection, and the notes back the claim. Velvet Desert Oud is known for incense, oud, amber and musk. All four appear here, and the incense forward opening mirrors it closely. The Dolce & Gabbana adds tobacco, saffron and leather, where Oud of London swaps those for smoky patchouli and a vanilla landing. Same desert incense character, sweeter finish, a fraction of the price.
Oud of London or Oud of Dubai
The two Prive releases sit at opposite ends of one idea. London is the dark one, incense and smoke with vanilla arriving late. Dubai is the sweet one, rose and saffron over oud on tonka and brown sugar, built in the tone of Montale Arabians Tonka. Choose London for a serious smoky oud, Dubai for compliments. Many buyers take both.
How to wear it
Fully unisex. Men tend to read it as a smoky oud, women as a warm resinous amber, and the vanilla keeps both readings comfortable. Two or three sprays give evening presence. Suited to autumn and winter, evenings and occasions with some ceremony to them. In summer heat the incense can feel dense, so save it for cooler air.
