Oud of Dubai by La Beaute Paris 85ml Eau de Parfum
Oud of Dubai is the warm half of the La Beaute Paris Prive Collection and the easier of the pair to fall for. Saffron and rose sit over oud, the base turns to tonka and brown sugar, and the result is the oldest structure in Arabian perfumery dressed up for compliments rather than ceremony. Same patterned glass, same weighted black box as its darker sibling.
The scent, note by note
Opening. Bergamot gives a short citrus lift before saffron takes over, warm and faintly leathery with the metallic edge that marks proper Arabian perfumery. Confident without being sharp.
Heart. Bulgarian rose is the centre of gravity, lush and slightly jammy rather than fresh or soapy. Nepalese oud underneath is smooth and resinous, closer to polished wood than anything animalic. Neither note overpowers the other.
Base. Tonka bean and brown sugar bring a creamy caramel sweetness, amber adds glow, and white musk softens the close. It settles into a gourmand oud that stays near the skin with the rose still showing through.

Inspired by Montale Arabians Tonka
Oud of Dubai follows Arabians Tonka closely enough to say so plainly. The Montale carries saffron, bergamot, oud, Bulgarian rose, tonka bean, sugar cane, amber, white musk and oakmoss. Oud of Dubai reproduces eight of those nine, with only oakmoss absent, which points to a cleaner and less earthy dry down. If the sweet saffron, rose, oud and tonka idea appeals and niche pricing does not, this is the obvious route in.
Oud of Dubai or Oud of London
Dubai is the sweet, rosy one and the safer first buy. London is the dark one, incense and smoke at the top, patchouli and vanilla at the base. Choose Dubai for gifting, date nights and anyone who finds smoky oud intimidating. Choose London when you want the room to notice.
How to wear it
Fully unisex. Rose and sugar read feminine on paper, but saffron and oud give enough backbone that men wear it comfortably in cold weather. Autumn and winter evenings, occasions, gifting. Two or three sprays are plenty since the tonka base is dense. In summer heat the sweetness turns heavy, so keep it for cooler air.
