Description
Amber Rose by Brandy opens with the rasp of oud already showing, softened almost at once by a drizzle of honey. That contrast is the whole idea. Something dark and resinous meets something warm and edible, and the pink pepper keeps a little spark going between them. Elemi lifts the top with a clean, faintly lemony resin so the first few minutes never feel heavy for the sake of it.
Give it twenty minutes and the florals arrive. Saffron does the heavy lifting here, leathery and slightly bitter, while orange blossom and jasmine round off its edges. Cashmere threads through the middle and smooths everything into a single warm surface rather than a stack of separate notes. This is where Amber Rose stops being a rose scent and becomes something more ambered and skin-close. The rose is present, but it is folded into the spice and the wood rather than sitting on top, which is what stops it feeling old-fashioned.
What I like most is how the different pieces refuse to sit still. Sniff early and you get honeyed spice, sniff an hour in and it is all leather and saffron, sniff at bedtime and the ambergris has taken over. Very few fragrances at this price reward that kind of attention.

The dry down is the reason to own this one. Agarwood and leather settle in for the long haul, oakmoss adds a green, earthy backbone, and ambergris gives that salty, slightly animal warmth that reads as expensive. It is unisex in the truest sense. On a man it leans woody and smoky, on a woman the rose and blossom stay more present, and neither reading is wrong.
As an Extrait de Parfum the concentration tells. Two sprays of this 100ml carry through a full working day and you will still catch it on a scarf the next morning. Projection is confident in the first couple of hours without shouting across a room, then it sits close to the skin. Suited to autumn and winter, cold evenings and occasions where you want to be remembered. It can feel like a lot in July heat, so save it for when the air is sharp.
